President Mugabe donates US$1m to the AU

The Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has donated US$1m to AU Commission Chairman towards making the commission self-sustaining.

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe had yesterday announced a donation of $1million to African Unionon on Monday during the opening plenary session of the 29th Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government, meeting in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, as part of effort by the AU to independently finance its projects. 

He said the money was raised from a donation of 300 cows from his personal ranch, the ZANU PF party and people of Zimbabwe to the African Union Foundation, contributing towards the self-sustainability of the AU Commission.
