Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada will respond “strongly and transparently” to new trade tariffs planned by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump said he would impose a 25% import tax on all steel and aluminum products entering the United States starting March 12, giving both sides a month to negotiate. Canada is the second-largest importer of the metals to the United States.

Since returning to the White House last month, Trump has announced a series of tariffs aimed at protecting American jobs and businesses. Trudeau said the new tariffs were “unjustified” as Canada has been locked in a second-place trade dispute with Washington for weeks.
